Is the environment next? I was thinking back to a little media pow wow Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight held just before the session got underway.

Before he took questions, he talked for about 10 minutes. It started with a surreal story from back home that weaved into the need for big time changes when it comes to the environment. He went from light bulbs to biodiesel in a matter of minutes and pledged it must be a big issue this session.

On numerous occasions, House Speaker Joe Hackney has also mentioned the need to work on environmental issues from this state.

Here we are looking at June in front of us and very little has been done. I'm not advocating environmental issues, I'm just wondering with a tough budget battle ahead whether we will have to wait until next year to see how these issues are taken up or if they will be taken up at all.
